Book Review: Blood Vow By J. R. Ward

Blood Vow: Black Dagger Legacy - J.R. Ward

Almost every book I've read by this author recently has had one thing in common: I'm always wishing for it to be just ONE story about a couple. I like this author's writing style and how everything is planned out and executed in each story, but the incorporation of two stories in one book that have barely any overlap is annoying to me. With that being said, I only read the Axe & Elise story and skimmed over the Rhage, Mary & Bitty story.

I liked Elise as a character until the last few chapters when she talked at Axe instead of asking him to explain himself. She came to this realistic, yet presumptuous conclusion of what happened and didn't let Axe defend himself because 'she knew everything'. She was always preaching about emotions and honesty, but she didn't even give Axe a chance. She was the judge, jury, and executioner in the span of five minutes.

I learned to like Axe. He was hard around the edges, but he did grow on me. I didn't like how he was always waiting for the worst to happen or the other shoe to drop. He treated everyone like they deserved to be treated and has a no-F's-given attitude.

I'm hoping the next book isn't going to be about Peyton, but from the way the story was written it's the only conclusion I can come up with. I'm not sure I want to be in his head just yet, so I hope I'm wrong.

My Favorite Quotes:

"(...) He was a Taylor Swift song waiting to happen."

"It's the definition of stupidity to beat yourself up over something that fate decided was going to happen or not."

"Just as some people were destined to be happy? Others simply didn't win that lottery."
