Book Review: Vampire's Bane By Suzannah Daniels

Vampire's Bane - Suzannah Daniels

This book was enjoyable to read, but there was something that I can't quite put my finger on that just didn't click for me. The writing was good and the characters were likable enough, yet I can't really put into words what felt so strange to me.

I had a like/hate relationship with Thane. I liked him because he treated everyone well and as long as their (the prisoners) requests didn't impact his mission he did his best to give them what they wanted. I hated him when he would pull the rug out from Maylin and put her in danger for his gain (even though he did do everything to prevent her from getting hurt while in that situation).

I still don't know how I feel about Maylin. I like her spunk and wit, but she kept repeating over and over how she had to complete her mission, how she was the leader and everyone was counting on her and blah, blah, blah. I understood that from page 10, why does she keep bringing it up?

There were some aspects of this story that confused me too. The Creed situation, had me repeating swear words in my head for a good 5 minutes before I could continue on with the story. The other aspects are very spoiler-ish so I won't mention them, but just be prepared to get your mind boggled. I may read the next book out of pure curiosity and I'd love to witness Maylin realize that she should have stayed put because it could be worse.

My Favorite Quotes:

"Without something to look forward to, the days are long and bleak."

"I'm fine. I'm always fine. I have no choice but to be fine."

"[..] One lesson I had learned from my time here was that life doesn't go as planned."
